Who's the WHU player that hated Antonio from the moment Antonio joined?
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p0bfj28r

On the BBC podcast with Antonio and Callum Wilson, Antonio mentions that on the first day he joined one of the squad said to him "what's your position?" and then "so you're here to take my place then?" and then absolutely hated Antonio and barely spoke to him until the day that the unnamed player left the club a year or two later.

Has anyone seen this story before? Who is it or do we think it is? He joined us as a right winger didn't he? So who was right wing at the time and subsequently left the club?

Yes I think it has to be Valencia. Antonio was brought in as an attacking midfeilder on the right side and obviously then not a centre forward. Could be Moses.

It was Andy Reid of Forest.

I'm sure I read Antonio saying his favourite position was on the left wing.. Maybe he said that to whoever it was.

You're both wrong. Mavis was at number 82 and she still has a soft spot for Antonio, if you get what I mean....

Marco Boogers. He was going to come out of hiding but heard the news and is still there.

I seem to recall that Michael Hughes resented Stan Lazaridis for the same reason.

Blimey, what an old gossiper. Who gives a fuck, but it might have been Mavis up at number 92.

Given Amalfitano left a month after Antonio signed it can’t be him.

Has to be Sakho looking at the clues - Moses was only with us for that season, Valencia left on loan at the start of the next season and never came back, Payet I can’t see feeling threatened by anyone, Lanzini is obviously still with us. Jarvis left either even before Antonio signed or not long after from memory.

I guess it could have been Carroll if Antonio described himself as coming in as an out and out striker, but that would have been pretty prescient given where he had played up until then. By that logic maybe he described himself as a right back and it was Sam Byram…

Out of interest I looked up our team for the match before Antonio signed.... the three nil victory away at Anfield! Slightly surprised that in the fast paced world of football transfers that six and a bit years later five of our starting eleven that day are still at West Ham...

Randolph
Tomkins
Reid
Ogbonna
Cresswell
Kouyate (right of the midfield three according to the BBC match report)
Obiang
Noble
Lanzini (West Ham debut, playing right of the front three)
Sakho
Payet

Hahaha, I love Antonio but no way would Payet be worried about Michail, the time he was with us I reckon he was in the top five players in the world

He came in with a view to playing right midfield/wing...if it was us, someone like Amalfitano sounds likely (but did he ever really HAVE a place in the side with us?)

You reckon Payet saw Antonio train and was worried that he'd nick his spot?

That's some sort of parallel universe you've entered.

Re: Who's the WHU player that hated Antonio from the moment Antonio joined?
By the description and Antonio coming in as an attacking midfield winger, it can only be Payet in midfield and Valencia and Sakho who were actually forwards. I'd go for Valencia, but both Payet and Sakho had personality disorders according to me.

Antonio was signed for 7 mill after a decent goal scoring record at Forest. Everyone knew who he was.
The ‘you’re here to nick my place’ mentality exists at lower league clubs where players need a contract to pay the mortgage
Sheffield Weds, Reading, Colchester?
